“About Us” & why our room rates are so low
We came to The Big Island for our Honeymoon years ago and loved it. It has been our dream to find a beautiful and peaceful place to open a Retreat Center. A place where one can take a break from their normal routine to expand into a greater sense of Wellness and personal renewal. Our intention was to find a spot on this Planet with:
- Great, Friendly People
- Tropical Weather but not too hot nor humid and minimal insects
- Lots of open space – Jungle and Meadows
- Close proximity to an International Airport
- Healthy Food we could Grow and Buy Locally
- A Spacious Nature Lodge for our Guests
- Close to a Major Natural Wonder – Hawaii Volcanoes National Park!
We have been to over 20 Countries from Spain to Guatemala to Canada to Bali
and much more….and we ended up back on The Big Island.
In 2016 we upgraded our lifestyle by trading in the comforts of a busy Coastal Community life in Southern California and made the leap of faith to The Big Island. We gave away most of our belongings and held onto our Spiritual Art.
Upon our arrival, we established The Celestial Sanctum Retreat Center and Volcano Park Rentals. When we don’t have Retreats going on, visitors have the opportunity to rent a spacious, lovely room for their “home base” while on The Big Island in.
People see our website or check us out on AirBnB and wonder…why do the prices
seem so reasonable?
The reason is we are establishing our new venture and want to attract people who
love Nature and appreciate what we have created here. We could charge double
and still be reasonable. The original owner built the home 6 years ago with the intention of optimal amounts of light to adorn the house. We are on 25 acres of Pristine Jungle and Meadows.
We like to attract visitors here that enjoy Nature and want to enjoy a respite from the hustle and bustle of life. We want to help others experience a break from fatigue and tension in the mind, body, and spirit, so we ask that guests refrain from alcohol, drugs, smoking, and honor a vegetarian diet while on the property. We welcome you to retreat with us on this Magical Island of Raw Beauty and Wonder.

A United States National Park was established in 1916 and it was named “Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park”. This park is located in Hawaii, the 50th State, on the Big Island of Hawaii. The National Park is composed of two active volcanoes: Mauna Loa, the world’s most massive shield volcano and Kīlauea, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Scientists, by visiting these two volcanoes, receive insight into the processes of volcanism and the birth of the Hawaiian Islands . The National Park offers dramatic volcanic landscapes as well as the opportunity to hike jungle trails and see rare flora and fauna.
What Other Say!
“I had a very pleasant stay at Rick and Katy’s place. The standard of the room is very good and the whole house is very pleasant. Rick and Katy were very helpful and very nice people. I enjoyed our discussions very much. The house is located just 15 minutes away from the Volcano national park where one can see glowing lava! An unforgettable experience! Around 30 minutes from Hilo from where one can visit many amazing waterfalls. The zoo (which is free) is just 20 minutes away. A guaranteed entertainment! Overall, I had a wonderful stay and memories for life! I highly recommend their place for an unforgettable vacation on Hawaii. Aloha!”
I have to say “Just WOW!” For a couple of nights we were fortunate to stay at this Nature Lodge and it is a magical place. The pictures do not highlight it well enough (at least for now), and what you get is much, much better. The Lodge is beautifully built and huge, the location is very good for both adventurous visitors (Hawaii Volcanoes National Park) and tranquil and peaceful stays. Rick and Katy Joy, the hosts, are so nice and just interesting people to interact with. Oh, and every morning you will get delicious and healthy breakfast! Highly recommended!
“This is the best airbnb experience we ever had! Katy Joy and Rick are so amazing people and they made it feel like a second home for us the breakfast is so great and all organic and Katy Joy gave us Yoga and Qi Gong classes every day that was a new and very good experience for us! The house is huge and we had like our own apartment. The location and view is perfect If we ever go back to Hawaii we know where to stay ”
“The house is clean, big and very nice. Rick and Katy also very friendly and they will give you a lot of useful information. They also provide the great breakfast. It is perfect experience.”
“ Katy Joy and Rick are very welcoming and warm and made us feel like we were at home! To make our stay as comfortable as possible they did everything in their power and always responded promptly when we inquired about things. The private room and attached full bathroom were very clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. The healthy breakfast was better than in any of the restaurants we had been to on our trip! If we’re ever back on the Big Island of Hawaii we would be sure to stay at this beautiful nature lodge!”
“Rick & Katy Joy were gracious hosts and it was truly a pleasure getting to meet and staying at their beautiful home. They went above and beyond, making sure that the internet worked for us as we needed to connect in the mornings and provided us with wonderful breakfast baskets the night before to accommodate our schedule. The room was spacious and clean, very private with a great bathroom and a huge closet with comfortable beds. It was a very restful place that was close to Volcano National Park and other places of interest to make it convenient. The gravel road is a little rocky in areas but easy to manage if you take your time and go slow, enjoy the opportunity to take a drive on a unique road that opens up to a wonderful sanctuary. ”
